KOI-AGE (Carp Catching) at HIROSAWA Pond

One of the symbolic events in December in Kyoto is KOI-AGE at HIROSAWA pond. If you are from Kyoto, You would tell the arrival of December by watching the news of this event on TV or papers.

Ever since the Heian period, the Hirosawa pond has been very famous as a best spot for moon viewing. As they reduce the water level of the pond, many big-fat carps and carassiuss appear to the surface in the mesh. They were the juveniles released to this pond in the last spring and now has become ready to be eaten. Many people including professional chefs come visit the pond to purchase the fish.
