A statue of Buddha at Konkai Komyoji Temple

Konkai Komyoji (金戒光明寺), also known as Kurotani-san (くろ谷さん), is a famous temple of the Pure Land sect of Buddhism called Jodo shu in Kyoto. There are many must-see spots at this temple, however, my favorite is this statue of Buddha with a very unique hair style. It is said that the Buddha whose official name is "Goko shiyui amidabutsu (ごこうしゆいあみだぶつ)", has pursued his learning in order to save people for immeasurable period of time without caring his appearance. He never cut his hair during the practice and the hair stretched and curled as much as they can.

Every time I see this Buddha's expression, I feel uplifted. Maybe it's because his hair proves his love for human beings.
